What is the Chakra System and Why Chakra Balancing is Important

What is the Human Chakra System?

The word ‘Chakra’ was derived from the Sanskrit language and it means spinning disk.  It refers to the seven concentrated energy centres within the body that are connected to major body parts and organs.

Comparing to the Chinese Meridian system, which is a network of ‘energy channels’, much like internal pathways, where the life-energy (known as “qi”) flows,  the Chakra system is referred to as seven energy points that vibrate and turn to channel energies into the body.

It is important to note that – We Are Energy.  All living things are created by and composed of energy.  The very function of why our energy centres exist is to keep us healthy psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Why is Chakra Balancing Important?

There are seven main Chakras in our Chakra System and they are located along the spinal cord.  These Chakras are energy vortexes that spin and expand outwardly.  Each Chakra is also depicted by colour and symbol.

When the Chakras are balanced, we tend to feel energized and healthy, when they are not, our vibration will decline and affect our health, energy level and overall vitality.

Because each Chakra is connected to a group of nerves and organs that govern our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being, any imbalances in a specific Chakra can significantly weaken that part of our body.

The 7 Chakras & The Benefits of Chakra Balancing

The Root Chakra

The Root Chakra is located at the base of our spine and it is the core energy centre that drives our sense of security.

Much like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the Root Chakra is the foundation of human needs such as money, food and shelter.

When the Root Chakra is balanced, we feel safe and secure, if it is not, it will trigger our insecurities and sense of lack.

Today, people are high-strung and driven by lofty goals that constantly challenge their sense of security, it is no wonder that Colorectal cancer is ranked as one of the highest killer diseases in the world.

The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located below the navel and it is associated with our relationship with the external world, our sexuality and creativity.

The Sacral Chakra is related to love, intimacy and whether we feel belong to our community and loved ones.

Imbalance in this area will hinder our creativity, sexuality and even cause disharmony in relationships.  Some people who have heavy blockages in this area may even have commitment issues in their relationships or promiscuity in their sexual life.

Of course, everyone manifests their imbalances in very different ways, there is never one specific outcome for everyone.

 The Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra is just above the navel and it relates closely with our ego and self-worth.  This Chakra is about how we see ourselves and our personal power.

Self-esteem and self-worth are two core phrases that are tied to this energy centre.

When the Solar Plexus is balanced, we feel in harmony with the world.  There is no need for power struggles because we are confident and don’t see a need to prove our strength and identity to others.

If this Chakra is imbalanced, we tend to have anger or jealousy issues.  There is a tendency to inflate or deflate our self-esteem, leading to constant struggles with others.

The Heart Chakra is the most important because it connects the lower and upper Chakras for transformation.

This Chakra serves as a bridge between our body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

When the Heart Chakra is balanced, it anchors the soul to the body, energises the immune system, allows forgiveness, compassion and contentment to flow through naturally.

People who have done substantial work on this Chakra can be compassionate, nurturing and empathic.  They easily see the good in others and are at peace with themselves and the external world.

When a person is highly imbalanced in this area, they tend to be worrisome, easily hurt and unable to extend kindness to others.  There is a tendency to be self-centred and detached for the sake of self-preservation.

This Chakra is about self-expression and connectivity with the wider world. How you communicate, what you communicate and why you communicate affects this Chakra.

An imbalanced Throat Chakra tends to make a person gossipy; constantly speaking ill of others and even of themselves.

When a person is well-developed in this area, they will feel in tune with their inner guidance and have clarity to their purpose.  It is about tapping into their wisdom and understanding how the knowledge they’ve gained can come together seamlessly to bring greater good for themselves and their community.

This is not about being religious but to have an expanded view about the world and the higher-order of life.

Managing the Chakra system is a process of acknowledging our energetic existence and seeking a holistic approach to live a meaningful life.

There are a myriad of ways to regain a balanced Chakra system, but true restoration can only take place when we exercise discernment and self-awareness.  The truth is most people are not ready to accept their imbalances and many more will not acknowledge their problems even when these are presented to them.

It is when we are willing to look within that we can derive the appropriate solutions to achieving an empowering life.  Are you willing to look within?
